Questions people often ask
We really have heard it all — there are no silly questions here!
How much does it cost?
We ask for a small donation of £3 per session. This covers the cost of hiring the venue and providing refreshments — so you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee while we help! Southwater Computer Club is run entirely by volunteers, so your donation goes straight to keeping the sessions running.
Do I need to know anything about technology?
Not at all — that's what we're here for! You just need to bring your device (or describe your problem) and we'll take it from there. We're used to starting from scratch and we genuinely enjoy it.
Will you look at my personal files or passwords?
We will only ever look at what you show us and ask us to help with. We operate a strict privacy policy — your data and personal information stay private. You're always in control.
What if my problem can't be fixed on the spot?
Some problems take a bit more time. We'll always let you know honestly what we think can be done, and if we need to look into it further, we'll arrange a follow-up at a time that suits you.
Can you come to my home?
Our main support is offered at drop-in sessions and remotely by phone or video call. Home visits may be possible in special circumstances — please get in touch and we'll do our best to help.
I've been scammed — can you help?
Yes. If you think you've been the victim of an online scam or suspicious activity, please get in touch as soon as possible. We can help you understand what to do next and how to protect yourself going forward.
Could you be a volunteer?
We're always looking for people who enjoy helping others with technology. You don't need to be an expert — just patient, friendly, and willing to help your neighbours.
